Dancing With Our Stars – Red Cross Style ~ A Recap!

Written By: Nicole Gulatz, Director of Major Gifts

Wow, what a night to remember!  On Saturday, my husband, Blake, and I drove up to Green Bay for our Northeast Wisconsin Red Cross Chapter’s 6th annual Dancing with Our Stars event.  Similar to the ABC television show Dancing with The Stars, this event pairs Green Bay area celebrities with local dance studios.  The stars work with their professional dancers, practicing 2 different dance routines to present at the event.  This year, they performed in front of an audience of more than 1,000 people at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay.

And what a show it was!  It’s incredible to see how much progress the stars make through their Imagetraining – they looked like professionals on the ballroom floor themselves.  I was especially surprised and excited to see one of my coworkers, Jody Weyers, out of the dance floor elegantly landing the splits during her routine.

This year’s event also featured a very special guest.  Peta Murgatroyd  — a professional dancer who performs on Dancing with the Stars and who was Green Bay Packer Donald Driver’s partner when he won season 14 – attended and served as a guest judge.  As a judge, she provided a lot of great tips and pointers to the dancers on their form.  She also brought a lot of energy to the event.  Before the winners were announced, she danced a polka (being from Australia and now living in LA – this was a whole new dance to her!) with one of the raffle winners.

Dancing with Our Stars is not only a lot of fun, but also a terrific fundraiser that helps us continue to deliver Red Cross services throughout the Northeastern Wisconsin.  Through the help of the dancers below, we raised more than $500,000!  The top fundraiser and winner of the fundraising Mirrorball trophy was Jim Rivett.  Since the fall, through his fundraising efforts, he raised more than $200,000 alone.  The event broke the fundraising record from last year and we hope that it will be even more successful in 2015.
